NerdWallet App Relaunch

Over the past few years, NerdWallet has made a conscious effort to invest more in their app and membership model. After the launch of NerdWallet+, the product team then set out to relaunch our NerdWallet app. Partnering closely with product, we built out the branding toolkit, developed marketing launch collateral, created guidelines for visuals within product, and worked on integrating the new branding into our larger NerdWallet ecosystem.

Defining the visual language

While product started with the foundational elements like type scale, primary color palette, and app layouts, we used that as a starting point to expand the visual system into elements that would be more flexible for all touchpoints within the user experience. We expanded the color library, updated our illustration and image libraries, and created guidelines to help enable product and design to create on-brand experiences after launch.

 
 

Creating the marketing collateral

In parallel to developing the toolkits, we also created the campaigns and marketing for the app relaunch, from banner ads, to app store screens, email campaigns, and into the onboarding flow. This helped us pressure test the guidelines we were establishing to ensure they worked across various types of deliverables.

 

Partnering with product

Lastly, we also worked closely with our product design team to help add visual interest, delight, and branded moments within the app experience. From illustrations, to color, to UI design, the team was able to ensure that we were creating a cohesive user experience from marketing into our product.

 
 

 

Where we are today

The app has successfully re-launched in Q3 2025 and we are continuing to refine the toolkits, expand the design systems, and create new collateral to promote downloading and usage for the new app experience. This initiative was a great case study of cross-collaboration and alignment between teams, building as we go under a fast timeline, and influencing without authority as a brand studio team.
